Racing with faster cars
This is some well-meaning advice for drivers intending to race their MK2 race cars in the MK5 series rounds. The PGTI MK5 cars will have more power, therefore if driven by a fast driver is likely to be considerably faster than the MK2 8V and 16V cars.
You are likely to be lapped during a race. There is a large speed differential between the two models, therefore you will need to remain aware of what is going on outside of your own class, in which you will be battling for position.
You are not only entitled, but encouraged to take the racing line at all times, including through the fast corners. Faster cars will be aware of where you are going to be, because it will be the racing line and therefore they can find the best way around you. Any sudden deviation from the norm, which you might believe is being helpful to the faster cars, could cause an accident as it is, by definition, unexpected.
The MK5 drivers will be made aware of this, and with their increased power, they should be able to negotiate safely past you if they are sure you that you will remain on the racing line. It is all too easy to forget what is behind or beside if you are locked in battle with the car in front, so please ensure you check your mirrors frequently.
The MK5 drivers will be asked to respect the MK2 battles and not you use you as an opportunity to create space between them, by using you as a block. However, inevitably they may be occasions where this is unavoidable so we should all be helpful to the driver disadvantaged.
